Oslo2022. In Ice.

Ice and snow are elements most of us have a relation to, but the use of this easy-shaped material in constructions is limited. Today’s structures are mostly confined to niche programs where the architectural approach is minimal. Our goal has been to explore the possibilities of ice as a flexible building system, as well as its strength capacity and spatial qualities.

The largest public event in colder climate is the Winter Olympics, where Norway is applying as host nation in 2022. The public opinion regarding the environmental aspect is prominent. A fundamental question is what we will do with all the erected building mass once it is finished. Here we can benefit from the temporary nature of ice and erase the whole issue of reuse; the excess building mass will simply melt away.
Playful, responsible and ambitious.
