Collective housing for elderly people

An idea of dwelling for people with dementia

Home – and service centre for elderly and sufferers of dementia in the Borough of Frogner. The exploration in this project is to create a residential complex that responds to the psychological and physical conditions that people with dementia face on a daily basis, by establishing spatial organisations and sequences that will aid orientation and a sense of place.

The notion of scale, views, spatial connections and figurativeness becomes important to the experience of knowing one’s being in a space. The concept grows from the idea of scenography; each room having its figurative quality, proportion and light that make rooms differ in character, but unite in a consistent concept of movement. The garden and the views of the city become points of reference to the interior.
A logic of openings allowing a visual contact between the programs is applied to the rooms, varying from central enfilades to corner openings.
