Reimagining ocean exploration
The world’s oceans cover 71% of our planet, yet scientists estimate that only 5% of the water has been explored. Ocean research equipment today is extremely expensive. In an environment that is normally dead quiet, noisy and bulky equipment scares off wildlife before researchers get the chance to observe it.
This project proposes a bionic fish to infiltrate subsea habitats. The low cost open source robot provides the opportunity for hobbyists to perform ocean exploration, largely democratizing access to the worlds ocean floors.
