‘18 steps village in the city’ terraces for new urban development in Chongqing
Chongqing is a major city in Southwest China, with more than 7 million population in the urbanized area. The ‘18 steps village’ is the oldest urban region, located in the center of Chongqing, just adjacent to the most prosperous downtown area.
As the city developing, the ‘18 steps village’ surrounded by skyscrapers, but the inside remains fall behind. The buildings are mostly 1 to 3 floors, built in several decades ago, the qualities are poor and declining. They are fire hazards and poor health and sanitary conditions for the inhabitants, lots of migrant workers are living there now because of inexpensive rental price. Due to its central location, ‘18 steps village’ under an intense urban develop pressure.
The new proposal will keep the qualities of previous public spaces, while creating large terracing platforms for new scales of real estate development that are demand by competitive market needs.
