& Finding time again
The project questions the notion of absolute flood protection in the Rhône River Delta, an area that is dealing with rising sea levels and increasing precipitation due to climate change.
From defence to adaptation; the project aims to address flood risks using and adapting the existing landscape in order to provide more space for the river.
This strategy at a territorial scale aims to decrease the water pressure on the city of Arles, using natural processes to slow down water flow, allow flooding, provide temporary reservoirs, re-naturalize the river and bring new uses.
By rethinking flood protection upstream, new ecologies are expected to emerge providing productive, natural and recreational landscapes, as opposed to the existing dike system.
