50 000 m2
The diploma has its departure point in the future development of Vippetangen in Oslo. It is expected the area will become a cultural urban space with new public attractions and the promenade of Fjordbyen crossing it.
The ferry terminal system at Vippetangen takes up 50 000 m2 of ground floor. 37 000 m2 of it is a container area.
It is decided that the ferry terminal at the site will stay. The present plan for the future terminal system only addresses functional matters of traffic. There is a contradiction in letting a huge container area, which is blocked off to the public remain, when the intention is to create a new and attractive urban space.
The diploma project proposes to deal with the contradiction between ferry terminal logistics and public space in the creation of a new terminal area that contributes positively to the city of Oslo.
